The Mother of Dragons just turned 40 — and Westeros came to the party. Emilia Clarke celebrated her 40th birthday on Friday, October 23, and on Saturday, October 24, she shared a series of monochrome photographs from the celebration on social media.
"This Is 40 Baby," she captioned the post, which showed Clarke and her guests dancing and celebrating together. Within hours, fans had turned it into a full-blown Game of Thrones reunion watch.
Who was there
Among those spotted at the bash were some of the most familiar faces from the show:
- Kit Harington — Jon Snow
- Nathalie Emmanuel — Missandei
- Alfie Allen — Theon Greyjoy
- Jacob Anderson — Grey Worm
- Indira Varma — Ellaria Sand
They were joined by several of Clarke's other friends, and the black-and-white photos gave the whole night a deliberately nostalgic feel — fitting for a cast whose show ended seven years ago.
Why this reunion hit so hard
Game of Thrones ran for eight seasons, from April 2011 to May 2019, and turned Clarke's Daenerys Targaryen into one of the defining characters of modern television. Clarke played the role across all eight seasons, from exiled princess to the Mother of Dragons, and earned four Primetime Emmy nominations for it — three for supporting actress (2013, 2015 and 2016) and one for lead actress in 2019.
That is why a birthday photo dump felt like an event. The cast scattered after the finale, and the show's final season divided fans sharply — so seeing Jon Snow, Missandei, Theon, Grey Worm and Ellaria in one room again was, for many viewers, the reunion they never got on screen.
What is next for Westeros
The reunion also lands at a busy moment for the franchise. House of the Dragon continues the Targaryen story, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms adapts George R. R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, and the franchise is set to make its feature-film debut with Game of Thrones: Aegon's Conquest, scheduled for release in theatres on June 1, 2029, with Owen Harris attached to direct.
As for Clarke herself, the birthday girl is not slowing down. Born in London on October 23, 1986, she has stayed in demand since the show ended, with recent credits including the Cold War-era drama Ponies and the film Next Life, and more projects already confirmed.
Forty looks good on the Queen of Dragons — and judging by the guest list, her court is still very much intact.
